Description

Located in the upper part of Cala Saona, the estate dates back to the beginning of 1956 (around the 1930s) and, due to its location and extension, it was the agricultural centre of Formentera, a reference point for the whole part of the island facing Cala Saona.
The first partial renovation of the main building dates back to the 1970s. 
In the 1990s, with the new property, the first complete restoration and conservation project was commissioned to the architect Philippe Rotthier, who gave it its particular structure and its current volumetric characteristics, enlarging the property from 60 to 220 square metres.
In those years, Philippe Rotthier became the most important interpreter of Ibiza's traditional architecture. The houses in which the Belgian architect is involved are built according to traditional techniques and his design aims to make them as self-sufficient as possible. Rotthier became a specialist in archaic construction, being at that time one of the few architects on the Balearic Islands with the knowledge and maturity to build houses linked to a thousand-year-old tradition.
Based in the Balearics since 1972, Rotthier has carried out numerous restoration and construction projects between Ibiza and the Balearics, which have been published all over the world.
Can Jordi is his only work on Formentera and has been published in numerous architectural magazines and catalogues.
Today Rotthier, at the age of 81 and still in Ibiza, is retired.
However, thanks to his inspiration, his projects and the work of his studio, the second renovation and extension of Can Jordi, according to the original design, was approved in 2022.

 

New project:
The new approved project includes the extension of the existing building with four new bedrooms and four bathrooms on the ground floor, and a basement where a Gim room, a large games room, a sauna, a large bathroom with showers, an English courtyard, a large laundry room, a technical room and a storage room are planned.  
The existing building will be used entirely as a day area with large living rooms, dining room, kitchen, terraces, except on the upper floor where there will be an office, with bathroom, and the existing annex which will house a junior suite with its own bathroom.
Outside, there will be a swimming pool.
The new intervention, as in the original project, will be limited to the realisation of the new spaces without intervening in any way on the existing, and will extend the building from 220 to 392 square metres plus 148 square metres of basement.

 

Situation:
Wonderful plot of 25,000 square metres divided into olive grove, lavender field, area with fruit trees, swimming pool area, paddle court, etc., with sea views here and there, one and a half kilometres from the beach of Cala Saona, the port of La Savina and the village of San Francisco, small capital of the island.
